Healthy Eating Diet

A healthy eating diet doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive. There are many ways to improve your diet for good health. Here are a few ideas of ways to change what you are currently eating into a healthy eating diet. Most of these are simple and require only about 15 minutes to prepare.

The most important meal of a healthy eating diet – or any diet for that matter – is breakfast. Whatever you do, don’t skip breakfast. Pressed for time? Try a fruit smoothie for a refreshing, healthy choice. You can use almost anything for a smoothie but the basic ingredients are a cup of low or non-fat yogurt, some frozen berries, fruit juice, non-fat milk (if powdered, ¼ cup), and a banana. This delicious drink will give you a good amount of calcium and count for some of your fruit servings. It only takes a few minutes to blend a smoothie but the benefits are long-lasting.

Other healthy eating diet tips for breakfast include eating a pink grapefruit – loaded with beta carotene -, or oatmeal topped with chopped fruit or raisins. Do you think oatmeal takes too long to make? Just put 1 cup of oatmeal (regular or quick oats; it doesn’t matter) into 1 ¾ cups of water and microwave for 3 minutes. It’ll be done before you know it and you’ll have a healthy breakfast with no mess. Substitute different kinds of juice for your usual apple or orange juice; there are many delicious blends available and they’re loaded with anti-oxidants.

A healthy eating diet at lunch is just as easy. Avoid fast food; if you work, bring your lunch instead of eating out. Make a sandwich on whole grain bread using lean meat. Add lettuce, tomato, and sprouts for a great tasting sandwich. Top with a half of avocado or pickles and use mustard instead of mayonnaise. If you want a salad, stay away from high calorie dressings. Use vinegar and oil or a no-fat Italian.

Dinnertime doesn’t need to sabotage your healthy eating diet. There are many good dinner ideas. For example, you can have a baked potato – just choose healthy toppings. Instead of butter top your potato with salsa, beans, and a little cheese. The cheese not only tastes good but will give you a calcium boost while adding only 1/3 the calories of butter. Have lean meat and a vegetable and salad.

A healthy eating diet includes snacks. If you don’t munch something between meals you’ll be tempted to overeat at mealtime. Try frozen grapes, an apple, some walnuts or almonds, and low-fat cheese on whole wheat crackers. Put on your “thinking cap” and you’ll come up with many more meal ideas. As you can see, a healthy eating diet can be fun, tasty, and easy to achieve.
