Kids Healthy Eating Tips

     One of the most difficult aspects of being a parent is getting one’s children to eat properly so here are some kids healthy eating tips. Do you have a picky eater? Perhaps your child has a good appetite but won’t eat certain foods. Maybe your child eats too much junk food. Whatever the situation, with a little planning you can help your child eat a well rounded diet.

     The first of our kids healthy eating tips is the most important; that is, be a good role model yourself. Children imitate the adults around them, so be sure that you are choosing fruit for snacks instead of cookies or brownies. Be sure to eat plenty of vegetables and salads. With older children it is also important that you control your portion size so they learn not to overeat.

     Other kids healthy eating tips include letting them be involved in food selection and preparation; not forcing them to eat certain foods or to eat everything on their plate; have regular family meals, and serve them a variety of healthy foods.

     Children seem to be more willing to eat healthy foods if they are allowed to go to the store and help select food. They also like to be involved in creating the menu and making the meal. Try making this fun for them and they will usually be open to eating healthy foods even if they are unfamiliar.

     Don’t force them to eat certain foods; this is a sure way to cause them to avoid this food. Instead limit the foods they must choose from and put a little of everything on their plate. When given the choice between 2 vegetables they will usually choose 1 of them which is better than serving only 1 vegetable and them refusing it. If their only selections are healthy foods, when they are hungry they will eat them, especially if you don’t make a big deal about it.
